La Bodega de Mauricio Jasso | PORTARRETRATOS | VENECIANOS
Lo que se conoce como "trabajo veneciano" en espejo y vidrio data desde el siglo XVI.
In the early 16th century the Venetians perfected metal backed glass. Back to the beginning mirrors were used purely for functional purposes. More than used for viewing they were used as a form of illumination. Mirrors were combined with candles to provide a brighter illumination than just the candles would provide.
1. Cut And Etched Glass Mirrors
Etching was a very popular method of decorating glass in the late 18th centuries. Windows, stemware, and mirrors were often etched. Etching was done by immersing the cut glass in an acid bath. The parts of the glass that weren't going to be decorated were covered with rosin and beeswax which is called resist. Then when the exposed parts are immersed into the acid the pattern is revealed.
